Yiannis Hrysomallis, or Yanni for short, was born in Kalamata, Greece on November 14, 1954. After moving straight from Greece to America, Yanni attended the University
of Minnesota. After graduating with a degree in psychology, Yanni took a risk and decided to follow his dream in music. Though he couldn't read music and had no formal training, his determination led him to a successful career in composing hit songs. Some of his most notable songs he wrote include "Santorini," "In the Morning Light," "Tribute," "The End of August" and "Nostalgia."
Aside
from his success in music, Yanni has also become one of the top
fundraisers of all time for public television. In doing so, he's
appeared on PBS Pledge TV Specials such as A Decade of Excellence and many more!
